What actually happens

Which git hosts can it import from?

Any https git address: GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or a self-hosted server. Paste the link a browser shows; the import rebuilds the clone address itself. Private GitHub repositories can be picked from a list after connecting GitHub.

Does the commit history come with it?

Yes. The repository is cloned with every commit into a repository that is yours here, and it opens as a normal project from that point on.

What if a previous developer built it and I have nothing?

There is a door for exactly that. It gives you a three-sentence message to send them, asking for the repository link, with a Copy button. Once you have the link, paste it.

Can I upload a zip instead?

Not yet. Today the import is from a git repository. Every tool listed on this page can put your project in one.

What does it cost to import?
